{Bibliophile: A person with a very extreme love for books}

You sat at the edge of your seat in your apartment as you read the last chapter of your new favorite book series. In less than a week you had gone through three books prior to this one, and with each book in the series, the story became better and better. Finally, you finished the second-to-last book in the collection, and you sat it down with an agitated sigh. Why did all the authors have to end in a cliffhanger? You were dying to know what happened next, but it was already noon, and you knew if you started the next book now you would spend the whole night reading it. Plus, there was also the fact you didn't have the last book in the series. So, if you wanted to read it you would have to go and buy it.

Grudgingly, you looked at the calendar on your fridge. You had school tomorrow...You sighed as you picked up your wallet and headed out the door.

You needed that last book. Thankfully, the walk to the bookstore was short, and you made it there in record time. You smiled as you walked in and the smell of books gently surrounded you. Quietly, you made your way to the shelf the book series was housed in, and you gently came to the halt. Standing in front of the books was a tall boy with black hair that looked like he had just woken up. He was handsome, you'd give him that, but what really made you curious was the book he was holding. The book you wanted. You went and stood next to him and scanned the shelf. You could feel him staring at you, but you brushed it off.

You felt your heart drop when you didn't see any copies of the book. That meant, you turned at looked at the book in the guys hands, that was the last copy.

    "
Umm..." You started, and the boy turned to look at  you with an amused grin. Strangely the way he looked at you reminded you of a cat. "Can I have that copy?"

"This?" He held up in his hands with a smirk. You nodded. "But I want to read it."

You felt your heart slightly panic at his words. You really wanted to know what happened next. But you wouldn't find out until 1) he gave you that book or 2) the store restocked it's supply in a week or two. It wouldn't be so bad to wait a week...would it?

"Please? I really, really want to know what happens next in the series." You asked nicely.

"How about....no," He said with a smirk.

'Now listen here you little-' You cut off your thoughts and gave a sickly sweet smile. "I'll-um-pay you for it?"

    "With what?"

"Money," You said instantly with a serious expression. He seemed to contemplate it for a while, but then his grin formed into something more devious.

"You go to Nekoma High, right?" He asked leaning against the bookshelf.

"Yeah...how did you know?" You asked with a slight frown.

"We're in the same class..." His smirk faltered for a second, and you stilled. There was no way. You've never seen him before. He chuckled slightly. "Then again, you're always reading some book or another, so I guess you've never noticed."

You blushed at his teasing. You weren't that oblivious! You knew perfectly well who was in your...Maybe he had a point.

"What do you want for it?" You asked with a frown. You were going to get that book no matter what.

"Do you know the spring formal?" He asked, his smirk making a reappearance.

"Yeah, it's in two days, isn't it?" You asked.

"Yup, and I need a date." He suggested. You froze for a few seconds. You wouldn't go on a date with a complete stranger for a book, would you?

    "What time?" You groaned.

    You would.

{Two Days Later}

You stood in front of your mirror with a frown marring your face. Oh why did you have to be such a bibliophile? Why couldn't you just wait for the book to restock or order it offline like everyone else? What made you think going to the spring formal dance with the infamous Kuroo Tetsurou was a good idea? Yeah, you knew who he was now. After the whole bookstore incident, you watched out for him during school. Sure enough, he actually was in your class.

Listening in to conversations around the school, you learned a lot about Kuroo. You learned about how he was the captain of the volleyball team, and how he was best friends with a guy named Kenma. You also learned, oh yeah, that every single girl in the school was in love with him.

Ever since you figured out how popular he was, you began to dread the dance more and more. Finally, an hour before the dance, your stomach was a pit of despair, and you wanted the night to be over.

Do it for the book. Do it for the book. You chanted in your head as you got ready. Your best friend had come by earlier and did you hair and picked out your outfit. Originally you were going to go in your school uniform (not caring a bit about the actual dance itself) but your best friend wouldn't allow you to. Now you were in formal attire that you were highly uncomfortable in.

The sound of your doorbell went off, and you gave a sigh. Slowly, you went over to the door and saw Kuroo standing there. You felt yourself gasp slightly. He was handsome. Not that he wasn't before. But, darn he looked good in a suit and tie.

He gave you a devious smirk, and you blushed.

From behind his back, he pulled out a rose, and you shyly took it.

"Do you do this for all your dates?" You asked.

"Only the ones I like," He said with a wink. He held out his arm, "Shall we?"

You took it, and for a minute you forgot that you were doing this all for a book.

The walk to the dance was short, which you were thankful for, as you doubted you could walk too far in your formal dress shoes. As soon as you walked in the school gym, your ears were flooded with loud music and shouts from the other students. Kuroo let go of your arm, but slid his hand down to hold his hand in yours. He slowly dragged you over to the refreshment table. There you saw Kenma hiding behind it, playing a hand-held video game.

"I can't believe you talked me into this," Kenma said glaring at Kuroo. The older boy laughed.

"You and me both," You agreed. Kenma looked up from his video game for a brief second, and you could see questions forming in his mind.

Kuroo looked between you two with a faux hurt. "Traitor!"

    "Kenma Kozume," He introduced himself.

    "(y/l/n) (y/n)" You replied.

After that, the time seemed to fly by. When you weren't talking to Kenma, you were dancing with Kuroo, and for the first time in a while, you felt yourself having fun. Kuroo seemed to understand your boundaries, and never pushed them too far. He was courteous and kind, but you wouldn't let yourself be fooled. You knew he also had a mischievous side a mile wide. During the duration of the dance you could feel many of the girl's jealous gazes land on you, but you were too euphoric to care.

The night drew to a close too soon.

Kuroo walked you home after the dance. Every once in a while you two would fall into comfortable silence, only to be broken whenever Kuroo thought a dorky pick-up line to try on you. Then you two would walk side by side without a word. You honestly didn't expect to enjoy the night so much. But, Kuroo was easy to hang around, and talking to him  was effortless. You weren't sure you were head-over-hills for the guy, but if he wanted to hang out again, you definitely wouldn't mind.

You arrived at your apartment with a giant smile on your face, but before you went inside, you turned around and stared at him.

"So, where's my payment, mister?" You asked with a sly smirk. Normally you wouldn't be this outgoing, but the night had adrenaline pumping through you veins.

    "What payment?"

"Don't act coy. You know what I'm talking about. Where's the book?"

"Oh!" He said with a smile as if he suddenly remember it. "I forgot it at my house."

You narrowed your eyes as his grin widened. "No you didn't. You're lying."

"Whoa, you're too smart for your own good." Kuroo laughed as he pulled the book out from behind his back. Where did he get that from? "How could you tell I was lying?"

"You get a twinkle in your eye whenever you're about to do something mischievous." You held out your hand in an impatient manner. "Book, please?"

"Hold on, you gotta do one more thing before I give this to you," Kuroo said waltzing closer to you. You lifted an eyebrow at his not-so-subtle advances.

"And what if I don't?" You ask.

"Then you don't obtain this fine, well-written piece of literature." He tossed the book from one hand to the next.

"That wasn't part of the deal!" You say as he takes another step towards you.

"No, it wasn't. But after seeing how cute you were today, I changed my mind." Kuroo said. Blood rose to your cheeks, and you hoped that it was dark enough to conceal your blush. You pouted and blew out your cheeks in a childish manner.

"Fine! What do you want for it?" You asked. Kuroo placed a hand on on the door behind you and leaned close to your face. Even though shadows covered most of his face, you could still see the mischief swimming in his eyes.

"Well, a good night kiss wouldn't go unwanted," He murmured, not once looking away from your eyes.

"You're terrible," You said with a laugh and he grinned. Slowly he started leaning closer and closer until your lips were a hair-width apart. He lingered there as he stared into your eyes, like he was silently asking for permission. Tired of the waiting, you reached out and grabbed his tux by the collar and closed the distance between you. Kuroo's eyes widened in shock, but he shut them after he began to kiss you back. Finally, when you two separated, Kuroo took a step back with a grin.

"Maybe I'll let you have the book now," He murmured, his eyes trailing back to your lips.

"What do you mean Kuroo?" You gave a mischievous smile as you held the book he was previously holding "I already have it!"

Kuroo looked between his empty hand to the book with a shocked expression. "When did you-"

"When you double crossed your deal," You said with a smirk. "You should know better by now than to get in my way of reading."

"Who knew you were such a vixen underneath," Kuroo grinned. "They always say it's the quiet ones."

"Now if you excuse me, I have a book to go read!" You said turning around and opening the door.

"But we we're just getting to the good part!" Kuroo whined. You waved.

    "See you at school!"

"Wait (y/n)-" He called out and you froze. You turned back and faced him. The moonlight shone on his black messy hair, and his eyes were watching you with a heartfelt stare. Not for the first time that night, you felt your breath being taken away. "I just wanted to tell you something." He said tilting his head a bit to the left. You gulped out of nervousness. He took a step closer and leaned over to where his mouth was next to your ear. "It's a secret." He whispered and chills ran up your spine. You waited a few seconds before his mouth opened once again, "The main character dies in the end!"

Suddenly, he jumped back as your face grew red. "You read it?!"

"Of course, I love that series!" He joked as he ran away. You growled as you watched his retreating form.

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!" You yelled rushing up to your apartment to see if his doomed words were true. As soon as you sat down on your bed you began reading.

After hours passed on into the night, and you finally finished the book. You slammed the end cover down with a frown marring your face. In the last chapter the main character had been wounded, and moments when you think she was about to die, she survived.

On the epilogue there was a sticky note. Written on it in neat loopy handwriting was, 'Scared you didn't I? ; ) '

    "THAT STUPID MISCHIEVOUS CAT!"
